“Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build. Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain.” Psalm 127:1 NAS
Psalm 127 is titled “Prosperity Comes from the Lord”. That’s solid truth. No matter what we do, how hard we work, or to what heights we aspire, the source of all prosperity comes from the Lord. “And my God shall supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19) Every need, every last need, is fulfilled from God’s storehouse of riches. Our prosperity, indeed, comes from the Lord.
The Christian should seek biblical prosperity, having a heart seeking the Lord and His will. Such prosperity is characterized by a state of flourishing and success in spiritual, physical, and material well-being, because it is aligned with God’s will. It encompasses health of spirit, soul, and body, and fulfilling one’s purpose in God’s kingdom.
Psalm 127:1-2 illustrates three ways the Lord brings prosperity to your life. “The Lord builds” (v.1). You can build nothing on our own. Unless you trust in the Divine Builder, you labor in vain. Let the Lord do the building in your life; be His assistant.
Next, “The Lord guards.”(v.1) He is your Divine Watchman. Get busy. Do His will. Don’t look around in fear and doubt. Look ahead to the goal while He guards you.
Finally, “The Lord gives.” (v.2) You are His beloved, and He delights to give to you. It may come from another’s hand, but the source is His great storehouse. “It is the blessing of the Lord that makes rich.” (Proverbs 10:22) Make it your desire to be rich in spirit, soul, and body. He will provide.
As life nears its end, let it be said of you: “If they obey and serve Him, they spend their days in prosperity, their years in happiness.” (Job 36:11 NAB) Be one of His prosperous ones. Amen.
